Illustrations for the Flitlit Introductory and Adventure Stories are the creation of award winning illustrator, James Field, and Eiry Rees Thomas. Contributions by Matthew Harding.
Research undertaken during the pilot work undertaken highlighted a hiatus in provision for materials that address issues associated with an immediate leap from picture books to early chapter novels. Carefully chosen page by page illustrations are desired for certain groups within this intermediate level, especially for the considerable numbers of young readers identified as visual learners, of which there may be up to 60% in a classroom.
Highly visual books for such groups call for age-appropriate, superior illustrations that maximise visual perception.
Such reading materials lead to a juxtaposition where text and illustrations are interwoven. This offers pupils and educators many opportunities to discuss various interpretations of the stories.
